Administrators Wrap-up

A brief synopsis of items covered at the most recent Board of Education meeting by district leadership


Superintendent Crowley:

- NYSED is looking at student & teacher absences. This started in 2016 with uploading teacher absences.
- A possibility of BOCES shared attendance officers.
- Need to report how we’re challenging students to take higher level classes/want to encourage students to do this; this will play out in school ratings down the road
- Smart Schools (carts & Chromebooks) - we’re receiving more info frequently, time still unknown when they will complete the paperwork so every teacher can have a cart with 24 Chromebooks. Some teachers have them already.
- BOCES-vendor scoring will be offered in 2018 & DCS will sign up for it so we don’t have to pull our teachers from classes to grade tests.
- Capital project - meeting with the owner of Plank on Friday to talk about project.
- Media center bookshelves are supposed to be in by 11/22.
- Roof on auditorium should start on Monday (10/30).

Principal Marvin:

- Student Council assisted with the new superintendent candidate visits; assisting with questions, write-up, they represented the district well.
- Working with two math coaches (grades 2-12), looking at different standards. HS math & ES teachers are open, giving feedback to both of them; teachers are willing to make changes.

Principal Conover:

Presented 3 bottle people: King Tut, FDR & Houdini underwater.

Athletic Director Hardenstine:

- Sports Committee met.
- Scholar athlete breakfast has been held in the past from 7:30-7:45 a.m. It is difficult for coaches & students to attend so looking at a spring banquet for all athletes & acknowledging those that are 3 time scholar athletes.
- Meet the coaches night is 10/30 @ 6 p.m.
- Interviewed for the basketball and cheer coaching positions.
- Golf team was Section II champions, 4 athletes from sectionals qualify to go to state competition in the spring.
- Volleyball enters Sectional play at Galway on Friday at 5 p.m.
- XC sectionals are next week.
