Closings and Delays
When the Duanesburg Central School District is forced to close schools, delay start times or dismiss students early due to inclement weather or other emergency conditions, that information will be reported on the homepage of the district website.
Other ways to find out about emergency school closings and delays:
* Please note that SNN and text messages can be delayed due to situations beyond the district's control. Delays can occur because of the volume of closing notifications sent over SNN, precautions put in place by email servers or issues with cellular carriers. Therefore, it is best to rely on more than one source of information for weather-related announcements.
School Closing Network
The district participates in The School Closings Network in cooperation with the Albany Times-Union, and any delay or cancellation will be announced on their website as well as the following television and radio stations:
No breakfast will be served in the event of a two-hour delay.
How and when are decisions made?
When DCS needs to determine whether school will be delayed or closed, we start just before 5:00 a.m., checking with county/town road crews and our transportation and buildings and grounds supervisors, speaking with local school district superintendents and reviewing updated weather forecasts.
The goal is to make a decision no later than 5:30 a.m. for a two-hour delay and no later than 7 a.m. as to whether we will close entirely. Once the decision is made, a series of phone calls to staff and media must occur. School delays/closings will be reported on this website, through School News Notifier, on TV channels 6, 9, 10 and 13, and radio station 95.5 FM.
When school is closed or dismissed early, all after-school activities are canceled unless otherwise scheduled by the superintendent. The DACC After-School Child Care program will be closed if school closes early or if all after-school activities are canceled.
