Brightening holidays with Toys for Tots

Nov. 8, 2016

DCS students and staff are spreading some holiday joy with their annual Toys for Tots campaign.

From Nov. 14 through Dec. 15, donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted for the district's Toys for Tots drive at the elementary school, high school and bus garage. The annual tradition joins together students, staff, parents, families and community members for the cause, which is officially known as the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

Toys may be sent in with students or dropped off during school hours at the main office in the high school or elementary school or at the bus garage. Fundraisers are also being held at the elementary and high school.

At the high school, students and staff sell Tot Tickets as a fundraiser, with all proceeds used to purchase toys. The goal is to once again sell enough Tot Tickets to cover the wall outside the main office. Anyone can purchase tickets and/or send in a new unwrapped toy.

According to the Toys for Tots website, "The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens."

Last year year's Toys for Tots drive was a great success at DCS, with hundreds of toys collected and several successful fundraisers for the cause.
