In pursuit of a cube full of positivity

Jan. 22, 2018

The assembly is done and the challenge is on: Duanesburg Elementary School students will work to fill a Cube of Positivity with golden tickets for good behavior by the end of the year. If they succeed, Principal Andrea Conover will do something silly, with ideas for that 'something' coming from the students themselves.

DES students and staff gathered for a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assembly in mid-January, joined by New Duanesburg Superintendent of Schools Frank Macri, where they rallied and learned, celebrated and encouraged all that is positive: behavior toward others in school, in the community, at home and beyond.

Students earn golden tickets for fulfilling the principles and goals of PBIS throughout the year. The Cube of Positivity is approximately four feet by four feet.

PBIS is a research-based approach that helps schools reduce behavioral problems and maintain a safer learning environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. PBIS involves the active participation of all school staff, students and their families.
