An Odyssey to state competition

March 5, 2018

Following a solid showing by all four of Duanesburg's teams at the March 3 Odyssey of the Mind regional competition at Shenendehowa East High School, DCS brought home second and third place honors and also scored a berth in the state event at Binghamton University in April.

DCS kindergarten teachers Jillian Conway and Debbie Johnson are the district's Odyssey of the Mind coordinators.

Conway's team of seven elementary students won second place in the Mockumentary! Seriously? event, and through a lottery, they were awarded an opportunity to compete at the states.

Johnson's team of seven elementary students scored third place in the A Stellar Hangout event.

Parent volunteers Melissa Peterson and Becky Evans coached another Duanesburg's team of seven students, as did parent volunteer Helen Sanders.

"I was able to watch part of the regional competition, and our students did extremely well," said DCS Superintendent Frank Macri. "All students, parents and coaches should be proud of what our school community presented."
