Students choose to honor Parkland victims, spread kindness

March 13, 2018

Student leaders at Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School have planned a brief assembly for March 14 where they will honor the 17 people who died in the Parkland, Florida shooting and host a safety presentation by State Troopers who routinely visit their school. The students will also kickoff 17 Days of Random Acts of Kindness.

Members of the Student Council, National Honor Society (NHS) and Leo Club worked with school administrators to plan an observance that is safe, educational and respectful of all students' rights and views. At the assembly, students will observe a moment of silence for the 17 victims and then read a biography for each. The Troopers will talk about school safety, violence and gun safety, followed by a question and answer session. High school staff will be present to provide supervision and support.

The 17 Days of Random Acts of Kindness is an effort by the Student Council, NHS and Leo Club "to promote kindness in our building."
