Softball team poses with collected items

The DCS varsity softball team was hoping to do some nice for Ronald McDonald House in Albany.

They wanted to cook for the residents, but were told they needed to be 18 or older to perform that volunteer task. Instead, the team decided to collect food, paper goods and personal care items such as toothpaste, soap and laundry detergent to help families there.

Their efforts a success, members of the team will personally deliver their donations to Ronald McDonald House.

Coach Tom Reiter is very proud of his team. "Their idea was totally student-driven," he said. "One of captains said 'let’s do something to give back, bond as a team and pay it forward'.

"I‘m very proud of the girls for thinking of others, especially during these difficult times."
