Eleanor Felton and Kristina Goebel honored by YMCA

April 23, 2018

DCS senior Eleanor Felton has been named an Outstanding Student by the Capital District YMCA in honor of her contributions to school and community that demonstrate the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

DCS high school counselor Kristina Goebel was named an Outstanding Educator by the Capital District YMCA in honor of her effectiveness in working with students, impact on community development and leadership.

Eleanor and Kristina received their awards at an April 11 ceremony at Key Hall at Proctors honoring students and educators from the region served by the YMCA's Duanesburg, Glenville and Schenectady branches. Eleanor was the only student and Kristina the only educator from the Duanesburg YMCA's  service area to be honored.

"Eleanor leads by example, making her a strong leader and a team player," the YMCA said in its printed program. "Eleanor looks at her life as a path full of opportunities and is a young woman who recognizes that at times we need to laugh at ourselves."

At DCS, Eleanor has been active in the Leo Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, outing club and as a peer tutor, and she is a member of the cross country and track teams. She also swims with the Electric Eels team at the YMCA and recently signed with American University in Washington, D.C., a Division 1 school.

Kristina Geobel was recognized by the YMCA for her work as a class advisor and district learning liaison at Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School. "Whenever a class looks for someone to volunteer their time, Kristina is one of the first faculty members they ask," noted the YMCA event program.
