Finalists selected in superintendent search

Sept. 29, 2017

The Duanesburg Central School District Board of Education has selected two finalists for the position of superintendent of schools to start in January 2018, when Superintendent Christine Crowley retires. William Anders and Francis Macri will be visiting the school district and meeting with the Board of Education in early October, and the Board expects to appoint the successful candidate in November.

Superintendent Crowley to retire in January 2018

Duanesburg Superintendent Christine Crowley informed the Board of Education, faculty and staff on May 17, 2017 that she will retire on Jan. 2, 2018. The Board of Education will work with the Capital Region BOCES to conduct a search for a new superintendent.

Crowley, who has served as superintendent since 2007, has led the district through a successful capital construction project to repair, renovate, modernize and update Duanesburg Elementary and High School. Most of the work is complete at the elementary school, and crews began at the high school in the spring of 2017.

During Crowley’s tenure, the district added a significant number of college-level courses including Advanced Placement and College in the High School classes; expanded the Project Lead the Way program to include younger students; updated and expanded educational technology including internet capability, networks and devices; and expanded distance learning technology to provide DCS students with the breadth and depth of courses they need to remain competitive with their peers.

Duanesburg has also increased the number of services it shares with other school districts, such as transportation, purchasing, sports and educational programs. In addition, Crowley has worked with teachers and parents to develop STEM-related activities such as First LEGO League, underwater robotics and the elementary science fair.
