Honoring those who have served

Nov. 10, 2015

Veterans Day is about love: love of country, love of those who have served, love of each other, said honored veteran and guest speaker Ryan Brunett as he addressed students, staff and visitors at a very special ceremony at Duanesburg Elementary School on November 10.

DES students showed their love by honoring local veterans and all who have served with patriotic songs, speeches and music played by high school band musicians at their annual Veterans Day assembly in the elementary cafeteria. Dressed in red, white and blue, the students and their guests witnessed a flag folding ceremony, listened as "Taps" was played and observed a moment of silence.

The students were also thanked by for their many donations to the Wounded Warrior Project by Marcia Carlson of Watervliet, who has been sending the items to a medical center in Germany. Carlson noted that the students were not only recently featured on CBS-6 TV news for their effort, but also have been honored by the White House. View photos below.
