Sharing respect and caring for our nation's flag
Sept. 26, 2016
Sixth-grade teacher Eric Swick is a former Boy Scout, and his students at Duanesburg Elementary are sharing in his respect for our nation's flag by raising and lowering the stars and stripes during brief ceremonies each weekday morning and afternoon. The students have learned the proper way to care for the flag, including its unfolding, raising and lowering it on the school's flagpole, folding it and storing it. "It's an honor for a student to be chosen to participate in the ceremony," Swick said. "In turn, the students are learning about leadership, citizenship and respect for the American flag."
