Coding is cool

Dec. 7, 2017

The computers were whirring in Duanesburg Elementary all this week, obeying the commands of students participating in the Hour of Code global initiative. The goal is to introduce students to computer science by teaching the basics of coding.

At DES, students in all grades learned and practiced coding, with older students teaming up to work with their younger schoolmates.

The reaction from students was most positive, both to becoming successful programmers and to sharing their knowledge with others.

"This is so cool!" exclaimed a 2nd grader.

"I love coding. I feel like I'm a real teacher when teaching the second graders to code," said a 6th grade student.

"Coding is interesting, and it's fun teaching people how to do it," added his classmate.
