The 2024-25 budget vote and Board of Education election will take place from 1-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Duanesburg Elementary School.
Board of Education election
On May 21, 2024, voters will elect three candidates to serve on the board of education for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2024. The terms of BOE members Melissa Them Peterson, Francis Spor and Teresa Wood-Irvin will expire on June 30, 2024.
Community members can learn more about each candidate at the PTA’s Meet the Candidates Night at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Joe Bena Hall at the Duanesburg Junior Senior High School.
Voter Qualifications
To vote, you must be at least 18 years old or older on election day, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the Duanesburg Central School District for at least 30 days prior to the vote. You do not need to be registered to vote.
Absentee Ballot
Qualified voters may request an absentee ballot if they will be unable to vote in person due to illness or physical disability, hospitalization, incarceration (unless incarcerated for a felony), travel outside the voter’s county of residence for employment or business reasons, studies, primary caregiver obligations or vacation on the day of election.
You must first complete an application to receive an absentee ballot. Voters who are approved by Schenectady County to receive absentee ballots each year do not have to fill out an annual application, and will automatically be sent an absentee ballot from the district clerk.
Early Voting
The new Early Mail Voter Act effective Jan. 1, 2024, allows for early voting for qualified voters without providing a reason. You must first complete an application to receive an early mail ballot.
There are separate applications for early voting or absentee ballot, but the application process and deadlines are the same for both.
To obtain an application for absentee ballot or early voting:
- Download and complete an Application for Absentee Ballot or an Application for Early Voting
- Pick one up at the Central Office at 133 School Drive in Delanson between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
- Call the district clerk at (518) 895-2279 to have one mailed to you.
Deadlines for Applications & Ballots
If you want an absentee ballot or early voting ballot mailed to you, your application must be received by the district clerk at least one week before the vote date. If you plan to pick up your ballot, your application must be received by the day before the vote.
Completed absentee ballots and early voting ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the vote. Ballots can be dropped off during regular business hours at the District Clerk’s Office (closes at 4p.m.) or at the voting site (Duanesburg Elementary School) by 5 p.m. on the day of the vote. No absentee ballots or early voting ballots will be accepted after 5 p.m. on the day of the vote.
