February is Career and Technical Education Month! Capital Region BOCES’ CTE programs are designed to further students’ education by giving them hands-on experience to better prepare them for the workforce or to continue their education at college or trade school.
BOCES CTE offers a number of different programs for students to participate in like Electrical Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Technology, Digital Media Design, Automotive Trades Technology, Criminal Justice, and more. Depending on what program a student enrolls in, they attend classes at either the Schoharie campus or the Albany campus. In addition to their program, students will take either math or science during their junior year and will take English their senior year while at CTE.
Students are introduced to CTE during their sophomore year in high school, and are able to take CTE classes during their junior and senior years. This year, Duanesburg has 16 juniors and 11 seniors attending CTE.
The sophomore class at Duanesburg recently had the chance to learn more about the programs that are offered through CTE and sign up for field trips to both campuses. 22 students visited the Schoharie campus last week, and another 25 sophomores will visit the Albany campus next week.
Students at Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School who are interested in learning more about the programs available to them through the Capital Region BOCES CTE program should contact their school counselor for more information:
