One School, One Book: At DCS, it is a grant-funded, character education project aimed at reinforcing peaceful schools, positive behaviors and a love of reading.
High school students and faculty are focusing on “Restart” by Gordon Korman, while the elementary is reading “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” by Kate DiCamillo.
As part of One School, One Book, everyone reads the same book, and school-wide activities center on the stories and messages. High school students recently focused on their book during PBIS day, and the elementary school had a One School, One Book kick-off assembly on Oct. 16.
Elementary staff are videotaping themselves reading chapters of their school’s book. A special link will be posted on this website in the near future for elementary parents and guardians.
DCS applied for and was awarded a grant to purchase the books for the One School, One Book program.
