We are thrilled that spectators will be able to attend home sporting events to cheer on our athletes during the winter season, but there are some health and safety guidelines that everyone in attendance must follow. We hope that by setting expectations in advance, everyone will have a more positive experience.
Because there are some limitations on the number of spectators allowed for home sporting events this winter, we are excited to announce that all basketball games and wrestling matches will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.
BASKETBALL & CHEER
For all home basketball games played at the Jr./Sr. HS campus, each Duanesburg athlete will be allowed to have four spectators. Athletes will have passes to hand out to family and friends in advance. Spectators must bring their pass in order to be allowed to enter the gym and will be required to sign in.
Each athlete from the away team is allowed to have two spectators for games being held at DCS. A list of away spectators will be provided in advance and each person must sign in upon arrival.
Anyone in attendance (spectators, coaches, athletes and officials) must wear a mask at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Masks will be available at the door for anyone who needs one. No one without a mask will be allowed into the building – no exceptions.
At the end of the JV basketball game, everyone must exit the gym. JV spectators will only be allowed to stay for the varsity match if there is room after checking in spectators with passes for the varsity match. Varsity spectators should not arrive early or expect to be able to enter the gym during the JV game.
All varsity athletes are to sit directly behind the team benches (second row and up) with masks on while they watch the JV game. JV athletes sit in the same location while watching the varsity game. Players are not allowed to sit in any other location.
Duanesburg will not charge admission for sporting events this winter. Concessions will be available during home matches. No food or drink is allowed in the gymnasium.
WRESTLING
All wrestling matches played at Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School will take place in Joe Bena Hall. Spectator guidelines will remain the same as basketball games – four spectators (with required pass) for each Duanesburg athlete and two spectators for each away athlete. All spectators must sign in. Everyone in attendance must wear a mask at all times, regardless of vaccination status. There are no exceptions.
PLEASE NOTE – for the Duanesburg Duals wrestling tournament being held on Saturday, Dec. 11, there will be a much larger number of athletes than normal in the building. Due to space limitations, each Duanesburg athlete will only be allowed two spectators for the day and away athletes will not be allowed any spectators. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.
BOWLING
There is no limit to the number of spectators for Duanesburg’s home bowling matches, which are held at Town’ N Country Lanes in Guilderland. However, because this is a school sponsored event, everyone in attendance is expected to wear a face mask at all times, regardless of vaccination status.
Before attending away matches as a spectator, it is recommended that you visit the website of the away school in advance, for a clear understanding of that school district’s healthy and safety policy. It is expected that everyone will follow and respect the school district’s policies.
As a reminder, you can access Duanesburg’s athletic schedule on the district website, which can be found on the right hand side of the “Athletics” page under “Athletics Schedules.”
If you have any questions or need further clarification on any of the district’s policies, please contact Duanesburg’s Athletic Director, Caite Wilson at cwilson@duanesburg.org or 518.895.3000 X229.
